My experience at Golden Jubilee Medical Center was thoroughly enjoyable. I was able to work with an amazing staff in an amazing office, and I learned so many new things. One point of this internship was to help me determine whether or not dentistry really was a correct path for me, and the experience did everything to show me that I am going in the right direction—I could definitely see myself doing this in the future. In fact, I enjoyed my experience so much that when I was given the opportunity to stay on as a member of the staff. My favorite part about my job shadow experience was all the nice patients and seeing how people in dental offices interact with their patients and with their co-workers. It was neat to see all the hygienists and assistants brush their teeth after lunch; it was reassuring to see that they're truly passionate about oral hygiene. My least favorite part about my job shadow experience was that I felt like I was in the way, but Sabrina and her co-workers assured me that I wasn't. Overall I really enjoyed learning about this career. What I discovered while job shadowing the dentists was that a lot of science is involved in the orthodontist career like knowing the names of the teeth types, the anatomy of the human mouth and also you have to be able to use chemistry skills reason why is because each orthodontist has a lab room in which they create teeth models for their patients and retainers or mouth guards using chemicals. I job shadowed a dental hygienist just to broaden my options for the career I want to pursue. At first I wasn't too sure if dentistry would be something that I would enjoy and could actually be something I could see myself doing. After my job shadow I could definitely see myself pursuing this career. I think a career in the dental field would be an exciting and rewarding job.
Believe it or not, there is more to being a dentist than checking people's teeth. Dentists have an array of responsibilities that require more than a degree from dental school. Of course there is the usual filling of cavities and removal of teeth decay, but dentists require more than that. A long day might include: filling cavities, pulling teeth, repairing teeth, replacing teeth, preventing dental disease, and much more. Everybody has experienced the roaring pain in the back of his or her mouth at one point in their lives. It is the ache that doesn’t seem to go away no matter how careful one might be. At this moment, a person knows that he or she needs help to terminate the throbbing that has literally taken over the entirety of their mouth. They need a dentist to stop the anguish. I think that people will always need their teeth cleaned. Dentists just make the world a happier place one smile at a time. Seeing new patient's everyday with a very well-paying salary, dentists are very happy people. Dentists actually must not only be very wise and well-educated but they have to be able to communicate with people and be able to be a leader and give directions, especially if they own their own private practice. They must be detail oriented and very well organized. Dentists must have the patience and physical stamina to withstand long days. It is better for everyone’s health to go see a dentist than to cower because of their tools. Everyone needs a regular dentist check up to monitor things that could become potentially serious. Dentists put in a lot of hard work to do the things that they do. They help treat diseases of the mouth such as gingivitis and thrush. They aren’t superheroes by themselves, though, they actually need a hand or too to get the job done efficiently. Usually you will find that dentists don’t work alone, contrarily, they have another or group of dentists working with them. The practice isn’t full of just dentists, though, because there is almost always an assistant or two. Also, there is a group of hygienists that, for the most part, do the dentist’s dirty work. Under the dentist's direction, these helpers sometimes take X-rays, clean patients' teeth, and teach patients how to care for their teeth and gums at home. Lastly, this internship inspired me to strive to do better in school and to work harder to achieve my dream of becoming a dentist.
