The purpose of this to simulate the steps in an autopsy. An autopsy is the examination of a dead body and is performed primarily to determine the cause of death and to identify the disease states present.
Materials 1.Scalpel 2.Forceps 3.Dissecting Pan 4.Dissecting Pins 5.Scissors 6.Sharp probe 7.Blunt probe 8.Dropper Analysis From the external and ventral surface, we noticed that there are six large scratch marks, length at about 0.75 - 1.5 cm. The first three scratch marks on the anterior surface are located on the thoracic cavity area. The first one of the three is located right on top of the mediastinum, and the other two scratches below it are lateral to the mediastinum. The other three scratches are located on the abdominal cavity and are inferior to the three previous scratches. On the other hand, the dorsal or the posterior surface did not have any marks like the front, but there was blood smeared everywhere. Additionally, on the internal and ventral surface, the first four scratches did not puncture any organs inside, but the last two (1.03 & 1.06 cm) did approximately at left sagittal planes. From the marks that we have observed, we think that it is caused by accident and not a homicide, a suicide, or a natural disaster. We think that because the marks are in groups of three and it is superficial. The scratches are also random in places, and we could not identify any tools or weapons that could cause similar scratches like these, so we think that humans do not cause it. We suspect that it could have resulted from an attack by a wild animal. At first, we thought that it might have been caused by the usual big animals like bears or tigers, but when we look at the scratches caused by these animals, it is only in groups of four scratches, not three so we think it is not these animals. Then we researched animals that have three claws, thus eliminating a lot of many animals we think could cause these scratches. We found some animals that have three claws like the sloth and the armadillos, but we cut those out of our suspension because they are relatively small animals with small claws and the scratches we found were quite big, so we did not think they caused it. We finalised our list, and we think that a Cassowary causes it. Cassowary tends to be quite hostile to humans when provoked, and they are also massive in size. They attack with their large claws with jump kicks, aiming to cause damage. Even though the six scratch marks were large, it was not deep enough to puncture any vital organs in the body, but we did notice that the patient lost much blood concluding that the cause of death is because of loss of blood. In conclusion, the cause of death is the loss of blood from an attack of a wild animal (Cassowary). Strategic Learner It is important to me because knowing and understanding the lab in order to the examination, I need to determine the cause of death. Being confident when faced with a new learning experience or assignment, help me approach it with a positive, proactive attitude. The mistakes can help I build my study skills in the areas where I am lacking.
